What is Classic Style?

While there is no singular definition of classic style, in my opinion, it is synonymous with timeless silhouettes, effortless outfits, and enduring appeal. I believe that classic fashion can span different ages and stages of life. For example, a 25 year old and a 45 year old could both wear a pair of high-rise jeans with a white button-down shirt and look equally as great. And a timeless black shift dress hanging in my closet today will still be as chic and fashionable 10 years from now. To me, classic style is the cheat code to always looking stylish and put together.

Classic Style Icons Throughout History

When it comes to classic style icons, most of mine are from another era. For as long as I’ve loved fashion, I’ve loved the personal style of Grace Kelly, Katherine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor, both on and off screen. I remember watching To Catch a Thief (with Grace Kelly) when I was 11 years old. Even at this young age, I couldn’t get enough of her wardrobe! Around the same time, I watched Sabrina (with Audrey Hepburn). I’ve been chasing that classic Sabrina style ever since. If you haven’t yet watched these movies, run and do so!

Use a Teardrop-Shape Makeup Sponge to Nail a French Manicure

Even with guide strips or the steadiest hands in the world, a is hard to pull off. Enter: a teardrop-shaped makeup blender! After you’ve applied pale pink or nude to your nails and let it dry, brush a thick line of opaque white polish onto the sponge. Press the tip of each nail into the paint, adding more white polish as needed. Let it dry, seal with a clear top coat, and admire your handiwork.

Only Get a Beauty Treatment You’re Psyched About

When it comes to professional beauty treatments, “Look in the mirror with your derm and talk about what bothers you. Then they can help you prioritize. You’re the boss, and you should be 2,000% psyched about doing something,” says, MD, creator of MMSkincare and founder of in New York City,

Apply Concealer With a Gentle Hand

Instead of piling on concealer, go for a less-is-more approach, says celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg. “Apply a dot of a yellow color corrector to counteract purple tones, or peach to counteract blue ones.” After that, you’ll just need a bit of concealer, Greenberg says. Opt for a liquid formula that’s slightly lighter than your skin tone. Dab it in hollow areas, and add a flick at the outer corner of your eyes for a lifted effect.

Shine Up Your Jewels With Dish Soap

Solid gold, white gold, and platinum are much more durable than silver and stay pretty shiny. For occasional touch-ups, soak them in the mixture of dish soap and warm water mentioned above, and use a soft, tiny toothbrush to scrub away grime. Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a microfiber cloth.

Plan outfits with comfort in mind.

Check the forecast and take your day into account.

If you look stylish but your outfit makes you uncomfortable, then you’re not really winning!

O’Brien suggests looking at the forecast before you get dressed so you know

if your outfit will be warm or cool enough You should also consider your day.

Mushroom Brown and Smoky Brunette

Cool, ashy tones are still going strong this year. Mushroom brown—a blend of taupe, ash, and soft mocha—is the perfect neutral option for those who want something modern but understated. It’s polished, dimensional, and ideal for cooler months.

One of our most requested looks for fall, chestnut and chocolate balayage gives brunettes a soft, natural-looking lift. This color technique grows out beautifully, making it a great choice if you want richness and shine without constant upkeep.

What Stella Nova Offers Our stylists can recommend clarifying shampoos, scalp scrubs, or in-salon detox treatments tailored to your needs. We carry targeted solutions designed to without stripping your scalp of essential moisture.

Tips for At-Home Scalp Care

  • Use a clarifying shampoo 1x/week to remove buildup
  • Massage your scalp while cleansing to stimulate circulation
  • Avoid heavy oils or dry shampoo overload in humid months
  • Protect your scalp from sunburn with hats or SPF sprays

How to Detox Your Hair for a Fresh Start

1. Clarifying Shampoo for a Deep Clean

Winter styling can leave behind product residue that makes hair look dull and limp. A clarifying shampoo removes buildup and preps your scalp for better moisture absorption. At Stella Nova Salon, we use R+Co. Oblivion Clarifying Shampoo to deeply cleanse your hair without stripping away natural oils.

2. Scalp Exfoliation to Remove Dry Skin

Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. A scalp scrub or detox treatment removes dead skin and encourages hair growth. Our stylists recommend R+Co. Crown Scalp Scrub or an in-salon scalp detox for a fresh, clean start.

3. Deep Conditioning for Hydration and Strength

Cold weather depletes moisture, leaving hair dry and prone to breakage. A deep conditioning treatment with ingredients like shea butter and bond-building proteins restores hydration and strengthens strands. Book a custom hair treatment in Charleston for a major moisture boost.

4. Trim Away Split Ends

Nothing detoxes your hair like a fresh cut. Dry, damaged ends keep your hair looking unhealthy, so a trim at Stella Nova Salon will instantly revive your style and promote healthy growth.

5. Switch to Lightweight, Nourishing Products

Spring is the season for lightweight, humidity-resistant haircare. Our Charleston salon carries R+Co., Oribe, and Bumble and bumble, all formulated to fight frizz and keep your hair looking fresh.

Create a Sustainable Wardrobe

A better wardrobe doesn’t necessarily mean buying more.

Taking care of existing clothing can also extend its useful life.
